You can double-click the domain to view the containers and organizational units (OUs). Your domain will be listed within the containers pane along with a container called Saved Queries. When you open ADUC, you will see a view that looks much like Figure 6.32.
So if you want to have your own customized administrative console that holds several different snap-ins that you use on a regular basis, you can add it to your collection of tools. Once it's added to the system, you will find that the link beneath the Administrative Tools menu will bring up the stand-alone version of ADUC, but you can also add ADUC to any MMC that you create. During the promotion to a domain controller, the ADUC link is added to the domain controller's Administrative Tools menu, and you can also install it by running the adminpak.msi file that is found in the I386 directory of the Windows Server installation CD.
ADUC is a Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in that can be added to any Windows 2000/XP/Vista/2003/2008 system as long as the appropriate libraries are installed and registered. Active Directory Users and Computers (ADUC) is the tool of choice for most administrators when they want to work with domain-based accounts.
